Dragonfly photographs at home

There are so many animals where I live 100's of different kinds of Moths. 1.5metre Goanna's. Wallabies, Bush Turkey's, Bush rats, Foxes, Hawks, frogs and lots of Spiders. Not everyones idea of Paradise. You'll find me most days photographing something.

 Yesterday it was these mating Dragonflys. Dragonfly's live for just over 12 months. We only see
them for about 2 months in their Adult form as we see them here, before they die. The heart position they are in is called the wheel position (even Dragonfly's have position names)

I followed these 2 around for about 10minutes. They flew around connected like this for at lease 20minutes. As they landed I managed to get very close to them to photograph them. They seemed oblivious to my presence. The male will stay connected to the female until she lays her eggs and in some cases just so she will not mate again. Poor girl she only has a 2 month window.

Nest Building

Here is a little series of pictures I took of a nest I made at little Styxs River, New England National Park a few weeks ago. The national park is 1600m above sea level. When we were their we spent 4 days in cloud and drizzle, it was cool damp and eeire. I kept on thinking it would have made a great movie site for Lord of the Rings. Lichen and moss draped every trees and branch. Their was so many twigs of lichen on the ground, which beckoned me to contemplate, create and play. Little Styx River is also famous for trout fishing. We were fortunate enough to befriend a expert fly fisherman who gave us 3 of his fresh mornings catch. Yum! I was suprised to find that their is alot of Trout fishing up this way and further south. When I think of Trout I automatically think Tasmania Australia. The township of Ebor and it's locals (town closest to Little Styx River) will proudly tell you it's the best trout fishing spot in Australia. Handy to know if your a keen angler.

Drawing tendrils and veins for new art work

I've been working on new art work to go with my "Postcards from blogland" series. I'm not sure how this will fit in yet or if it is finished. Looking at it now I can see a trunk coming out of it????

Tendrils and veins have been a linking thread through my work for a few years now. If you click here there is some artwork I did last year for a exhibition I did at Brunswick St Gallery in Melbourne a painting titled "Reclaim Regrowth" covered in pink embroidered leaf veins. A series I started about Nurture verses nature looking at natural order and how it relates to life and popular culture. I remember framing my work at school with drawings of vines with flowers, it seemed so natural and easy, I just did it with no thought. I'm taken back remembering this about myself. As humans and/or artist do we eventually come full circle and unconsciously go back to what feels natural about ourselves?
